Using While Traveling
Before Your Trip
- Complete initial setup, charge the Compute Puck, and check that the apps you need open correctly.
- If an app supports offline playback or access, download your content and check it without a network connection.
- Pair Bluetooth headphones in advance, and pack the included cables and a compatible PD/PPS charger.
- Put the device in its carrying case and check that cables are not pinched. Check your carrier's requirements before taking a power bank.
On a Plane or Train
- Once seated, connect the glasses and place the Compute Puck somewhere ventilated where it will not slip. Keep it out of seat gaps.
- Leave enough cable slack to turn your head or adjust your posture without pulling on the glasses.
- Adjust lens tint to the cabin lighting. Use a moderate volume or Bluetooth headphones.
- Configure Airplane Mode and wireless connections as instructed by the crew.
Travel Mode is different from Airplane Mode. Airplane Mode is used to manage wireless connections and cannot replace Travel Mode.
Travel Mode
Travel Mode enhances tracking when using XREAL AURA on planes, trains, or other moving vehicles, preventing your virtual display from drifting as the vehicle turns or accelerates.
Tracking Behavior
- 3 DoF tracking: When Travel Mode is on, 6 DoF positional tracking is disabled. The system switches to 3 DoF rotational tracking.
- Display follow: Content moves with your head's position (translation), but remains anchored as you look around (rotation).
Best Practices
- Stay seated: Remain in your seat while using Travel Mode, and ensure your immediate surroundings are clear.
- Avoid looking out windows: Looking directly at fast-moving exterior scenery or walking down aisles can disrupt tracking.
- Turn off when stationary: When you leave the vehicle or return to a stationary room, turn off Travel Mode to restore full 6 DoF spatial anchoring.
Turn Travel Mode On or Off
- Open Quick Settings.
- Select Travel Mode to turn it on or off.
If your display continues to drift or you feel discomfort, take off the glasses and rest.
Pausing and Packing
Before standing up, boarding, or leaving a vehicle, pause your content and remove the glasses, then secure or pack the Compute Puck and cables. Do not walk while watching virtual content.
Follow crew instructions during taxi, takeoff, landing, and other situations that require your attention. Carry and use the device according to your carrier's requirements.
When finished, shut down as described in Pausing and Finishing a Session, then put the device in its carrying case. See Storage and Carrying for placement and cable-coiling instructions.
