Connecting Other Devices
You can view content from an external device through the Compute Puck, or connect the glasses directly to a compatible device. The ports and available functions differ.
| Connection | Cable placement | Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Wired Mirroring (DP-in) | Connect the source to the Charging Port; keep the glasses connected to the Glasses Port | View the external device's picture within Android XR Can be paired with Gemini Live to understand on-screen content |
| Glasses as an external display | Connect the source directly to the glasses, without the Compute Puck | The source supplies picture and power; use the glasses' built-in display controls |
Wired Mirroring (DP-in)
Wired Mirroring allows you to project an external device's display into your Android XR environment through the Compute Puck.
The included USB-C charging cable does NOT support DisplayPort video transmission (it is for power only). You must provide your own USB-C cable that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode (video-capable cable) or use a compatible video adapter.
- Connect the glasses to the Compute Puck's Glasses Port and turn on XREAL AURA.
- Connect a video-capable USB-C cable between the source device's video output port and the Compute Puck's Charging Port (power icon).
- The Wired Mirroring (DP-in) view opens automatically after connection, showing the source device's picture within Android XR.
- Use the source device's own keyboard, mouse, or controller to operate its content.
If no picture appears, check that the source port and cable support video output, and check the computer's external display settings. Receiving a picture does not imply that XREAL AURA's touchpad can control the computer.
Using the Glasses as an External Display
The glasses support devices with USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode output, including some compatible laptops, smartphones, and handheld gaming devices.
- Unplug the straight end of the glasses cable from the Compute Puck.
- Keep the angled end connected to the glasses. Plug the straight end into the source device's video-capable USB-C port.
- Turn on or wake the source device and wait for it to detect the glasses. Choose whether to mirror or extend your display in the source device’s display settings.
The connected device powers the glasses; the Compute Puck does not need to be turned on. Devices with HDMI or other video outputs need an adapter with the correct signal direction and power support. Refer to the device and adapter manufacturers' instructions.
This connection cannot run Android XR apps or Gemini on the Compute Puck and does not provide Android XR hand interaction. The connected device determines the displayed content.
External Display Controls
When the glasses connect directly to another device, button functions differ from Android XR mode. Use the glasses' built-in on-screen display (OSD) menu, an on-screen settings menu, to adjust the picture.
| Menu | Settings |
|---|---|
| Spatial Screen | Anchor/Follow modes, screen size and distance, picture leveling, and IPD |
| Display | Brightness and color mode |
| Sound | Speaker volume and audio transport |
| My | Shortcut button customization |
| Other | Menu language, auto shutdown, firmware version, and factory reset |
XREAL AURA uses the same OSD menus and button controls as the XREAL One Series in external display mode. For instructions, see the XREAL One Series OSD Tutorials. For connection or display issues, see Frequently Asked Questions.
