App Design Guidelines
Optical See-Through Design
XREAL AURA uses OST (Optical See-Through) technology. XREAL AURA features an optical see-through display, allowing users to view their physical surroundings directly; virtual content stability and responsiveness remain subject to system, application, and ambient conditions.
- Optical see-through (surroundings directly visible) — Design for content overlay rather than completely occluding reality.
- System responsiveness and tracking state — Virtual content stability and latency depend on system workload, application optimization, and environmental conditions.
- Ambient light affects visibility — Consider electrochromic states in UI design.
- Limited brightness — High-contrast UI elements work better.
- No video passthrough — Real-world appearance cannot be modified.
UI/UX Guidelines
Text Readability:
- High angular resolution (PPD) for crisp text
- Use sufficient font sizes (minimum 14px equivalent)
- High contrast text on semi-transparent backgrounds
Window Placement:
- Default FOV is 70° diagonal
- Keep primary content within central 50° for comfort
- Avoid placing critical UI at extreme edges
Electrochromic Awareness:
- Design for multiple transparency levels
- Test UI across both darkest (Level 5) and clearest (Level 1) dimming levels
- Avoid relying on absolute brightness
