Frequently Asked Questions

Power and Battery Issues

  • The indicator does not light up when unfolding the keyboard, and keys do not respond.
    • Cause & Solution: The built-in battery may be completely drained. Connect the keyboard to a 5V power source using the included USB-C cable and charge it for at least 30 minutes. If the Power indicator glows red, charging is proceeding normally; it will turn green once fully charged.
  • Can I use the keyboard while it is charging?
    • Answer: Yes. When connected to a USB-C charging cable, the battery continues to charge while the keyboard remains wirelessly connected to XREAL AURA or other devices via Bluetooth.
  • Why can't I type when connecting the keyboard to a computer via a USB-C data cable?
    • Answer: The USB-C port on XREAL Keyboard is designed exclusively for charging and does not support USB wired keyboard data protocols. To use it with a computer, turn on Bluetooth on your computer and pair the keyboard wirelessly.
  • How long does it take to fully charge the keyboard?
    • Answer: Under standard 5V ⎓ 500mA power input, a full charge typically takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The Power indicator changing from solid red to solid green indicates charging is complete.

Bluetooth Pairing and Multi-Device Connectivity

  • XREAL Keyboard does not appear in the Bluetooth list on XREAL AURA or other devices.
    • Check power: Ensure the keyboard is completely unfolded (unfolding turns on the power).
    • Enter pairing mode: Press Fn + Q (or W / E) to select a channel, then press and hold that shortcut for 3 seconds until the Status indicator rapidly blinks blue.
    • Check existing connections: Verify whether the keyboard has automatically reconnected to another previously paired device (such as a phone or laptop). If so, turn off Bluetooth on that device or switch to an available channel.
    • Clear pairing history: If the keyboard was previously paired with the target device, select "Forget this device / Remove pairing" in your device's Bluetooth settings, then search and pair again.
  • The keyboard does not automatically reconnect to XREAL AURA after being unfolded.
    • Wake up the keyboard: The keyboard may have entered sleep mode. Press any key to wake the Bluetooth module.
    • Verify channel selection: Press Fn + Q (or the channel originally paired with Aura), confirm the Status indicator glows blue for 1 second, and wait a moment for the device to reconnect.
    • Check Aura Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on the XREAL AURA Compute Puck.
  • How do I switch between 3 paired devices? Do I need to pair them again each time?
    • Answer: No re-pairing is required. Simply press the corresponding channel shortcut (Fn + Q for Channel 1, Fn + W for Channel 2, or Fn + E for Channel 3). The Status indicator will glow solid blue for 1 second, and the keyboard will seamlessly switch to the target device within 1–2 seconds.

AURA Spatial Interaction & Input

  • The virtual on-screen keyboard still pops up in AURA after connecting the physical keyboard.
    • Answer: In XREAL AURA, connecting a physical keyboard automatically suppresses the virtual keyboard by default. If a specific third-party app still displays the on-screen keyboard, use the Compute Puck pointer to tap outside the text field, or go to Settings > Language & Input and confirm that "Hide on-screen keyboard when physical keyboard is connected" is enabled.
  • Why doesn't the IME candidate window appear directly below the text cursor?
    • Answer: To prevent pop-up candidate windows from blocking wide spatial windows and multi-screen documents, the XREAL Spatial IME uses a gaze-aligned design. The candidate window intelligently floats above the active window or within your optimal field of view. This is an intended design feature.
  • Top row keys (such as brightness, screenshot, or back) do not respond or act like computer function keys.
    • Answer: The keyboard is likely in standard F1–F12 function key mode. Press Fn + Esc; the Status indicator will illuminate blue for 1 second, switching the row back to spatial shortcuts and media controls.
  • Pressing the Meta key or Meta + A does not summon Gemini.
    • Answer: Ensure your XREAL AURA system is updated to the latest firmware version supporting Gemini, and verify that the Compute Puck is connected to the internet and signed into a Google account.
  • I notice input lag or occasional missed keystrokes while typing in XREAL AURA.
    • Check battery level: A slowly flashing red Power indicator indicates low battery, which can weaken wireless signal transmission. Charge the keyboard promptly.
    • Reduce wireless interference: Minimize metal obstructions between the keyboard and the Compute Puck, and keep clear of strong sources of radio frequency interference (such as high-power Wi-Fi routers or microwave equipment).
  • How do I switch quickly between Chinese and English input methods?
    • Answer: In XREAL AURA and Android, press the Shift key or Ctrl + Space to toggle between Chinese and English input methods.

Cross-Platform Systems & Key Mappings

  • Do I need to manually configure the operating system when connecting to a Windows PC or Mac?
    • Answer: No. The keyboard features built-in OS handshake recognition. Upon connecting, it automatically identifies the host platform (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android) and adjusts modifier keys and shortcut behaviors accordingly.
  • When using the keyboard on a Mac, what do the Meta and Alt keys correspond to?
    • Answer: On macOS, the Meta key automatically maps to Command ⌘, and the Alt key maps to Option ⌥.
  • Is it a malfunction if the Caps Lock indicator stays lit?
    • Answer: No. A solid white indicator indicates that Caps Lock is active. Press the Caps Lock key to return to lowercase typing, and the indicator will turn off.
